Disebutkan kemudian, anak Rara Lembayung yang diberi nama Jaka Umbaran tumbuh dan beranjak dewasa bersama ibu dan keluarga kakeknya Ki Ageng Giring III. Pada suatu hari, anak yang beranjak dewasa tersebut menanyakan kepada sang ibu, mengenai siapakah ayahnya. Akhirnya, Rara Lembayung tak sampai hati ketika Jaka Umbaran ingin mengetahui perihal tersebut.
Dalam versi cerita lain disebutkan, bahwa pengakuan Rara Lembayung mengenai siapa ayah Jaka Umbaran itu hanya disampaikan melalui pasemon (kiasan-kiasan petunjuk). Tidak secara langsung menyebut nama sang ayah. Petunjuk tersebut menyebutkan, bahwa ayah Jaka Umbaran ialah pemilik alun-alun atau tanah yang sangat luas di pusat kerajaan.
Kemudian, berangkatlah Jaka Umbaran mencari tahu pemilik tanah yang luas itu. Sesampainya di kawasan alun-alun pusat kerajaan, dirinya kesulitan mendapat akses masuk untuk mencari tahu ke dalam keraton. Maka ia mempunyai siasat, Jaka Umbaran berbuat onar.
Setelah berbuat onar, ia ditangkap dan menyampaikan niatnya hendak menemui ayahnya pemilik alun-alun yang luas. Lantas dirinya pun dikirim ke ruang Keraton Mataram. Di hadapan raja yang tak lain ayahnya sendiri, Jaka Umbaran menyampaikan asal usul dirinya.
Mendengar cerita Jaka Umbaran, Panembahan Senapati sadar, bahwa yang berada di hadapannya ialah keturunannya. Dirinya kecewa kepada Rara Lembayung yang telah mengingkari janji. Lantas Panembahan Senapati menyampaikan syarat, Jaka Umbaran akan diakui sebagai anak setelah syarat yang diminta terpenuhi.
“Jaka Umbaran diberi keris tanpa warangka (sarung). Dirinya diperintah Panembahan Senapati untuk mencari sarung keris tersebut berupa kayu cendhana sari bergaris putih,” tutur Yusuf Fajarudin.
Selanjutnya, kembalilah Jaka Umbaran ke kediaman ibunya. Setiba di rumah ia lantas menyampaikan permintaan Panembahan Senapati. Seketika itu pula Rara Lembayung sadar bahwa Panembahan Senapati tidak suka atas tindakannya yang telah ingkar janji. Rara Lembayung tidak mau hidup dihantui rasa malu. Ia hanya berkeinginan agar kelak dikemudian hari, anaknya mendapat pengakuan sebagai putra raja.
